What Makes Savage Unique?

  • Historic Savage Mill - is a 19th century textile mill between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington DC. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Savage Mill has been restored and adapted to become the region’s most unique home design and arts/craft retail center. The historic complex of buildings with over 175,000 square feet, is now home to major collector quality antique centers, home furnishing stores, craft galleries, artist studios, specialty shops, destination restaurants, banquet facilities and even an authentic French bakery.
  • Bollman Truss Railroad Bridge -  is the sole surviving example of a revolutionary design in the history of American bridge engineering. The 160 foot (48.8 m) double-span truss bridge is one of the oldest standing iron railroad bridges in the United States. It was built for an unknown location on the main line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1869, and was moved to its present location, spanning the Little Patuxent River on the spur to the Savage Mill, around 1887.
  • Mount Savage Historic District -  is significant for its association with the industrial development of the Western Maryland region, and for its rich architectural resources representing a wide variety of types and styles of domestic, commercial, religious, and industrial buildings and structures reflecting all phases of the community's development from the mid 19th to the early 20th centuries.  The vertical-board duplexes on Old Row are especially noteworthy as possibly the earliest examples of workers' housing remaining in the region.
