Fort Meade is a census-designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The population was 9,882 at the 2000 census. It is the home to the National Security Agency, which is located on the US Army base Fort George G. Meade. The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process aka BRAC will also bring even more activities to Fort Meade between 2007 and 2011 including Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). BRAC is expected to bring over 5,000 direct on base jobs and an estimated influx of government contract jobs and supporting infrastructure of over 10,000.

- What is BRAC? - "BRAC" is an acronym that stands for Base Realignment and Closure. It is the congressionally authorized process DoD has previously used to reorganize its base structure to more efficiently and effectively support our forces, increase operational readiness and facilitate new ways of doing business.
- The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) - is a cryptologic intelligence agency of the United States government, administered as part of the United States Department of Defense. Created on November 4, 1952, it is responsible for the collection and analysis of foreign communications and foreign signals intelligence, which involves a significant amount of cryptanalysis. It is also responsible for protecting U.S. government communications and information systems from similar agencies elsewhere, which involves a significant amount of cryptography. The NSA has recently been directed to help monitor U.S. federal agency computer networks to protect them against attacks.
- Fort George G. Meade Museum - exhibits historical artifacts, uniforms, weapons, tanks, photographs, documents and paintings pertaining to the history of Fort George G. Meade. On the museum's grounds are displayed historic military equipment including tanks, armored personnel carriers, a Nike "Ajax" missile, and a helicopter. The museum is located at 4674 Griffin Avenue, Fort George G. Meade.
